The Jefferson County Health Department is taking a new approach to sell its former office in Hillsboro. After an online auction on GovDeals.com failed to attract a single bid, the agency will now list the property at 405 Main St. with a local real estate agent.
The building, which once served as a health department satellite office, has been vacant since the department consolidated its services. Officials had hoped the online platform would generate interest from buyers looking for commercial or mixed-use space. However, the lack of offers forced the department to reconsider its strategy.
By partnering with a local agent, the health department aims to reach a broader audience of potential buyers who may be more familiar with the Hillsboro market. The move also allows for more traditional marketing and property showings. A department spokesperson said the listing price will be determined after a new appraisal and consultation with the real estate professional.
The sale is part of a broader effort by the county to offload unused properties and reduce maintenance costs. No timeline has been set for the listing, but officials expect it to hit the market within the next few weeks.
