City, county, and state officials gathered alongside developers on Monday to mark the groundbreaking of The Madison, a new 60-unit affordable housing community on North Market Street. Supporters say the project will help ease the growing demand for reasonably priced homes in the area.
The development is set to include a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, with rents targeted to households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. Plans also call for on-site amenities and green space, as well as proximity to public transit and local services.
Local leaders emphasized the need for more affordable options as Frederick continues to grow. The project received funding through state housing tax credits and local subsidies. Construction is expected to take roughly 18 months, with the first residents moving in by late 2025. Officials noted that The Madison represents one of several recent efforts to increase the city's stock of income-restricted housing.
