MU signs $900k contract with real estate developer

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri has signed a $900,000 agreement with a real estate development firm to help guide future campus decisions. University records show that MU entered into the contract with Reith Jones Advisors, a company that will assist with evaluating potential development opportunities.

According to documents released Thursday, the partnership was formed after a competitive selection process that concluded in January 2026. University officials said the firm was chosen for its experience in higher education planning and real estate strategy.

The agreement means Reith Jones Advisors will work with MU administrators to assess the campus footprint and identify areas where development or redevelopment makes sense. This could include everything from student housing to research facilities or commercial partnerships.

A university spokesperson said the evaluation is part of a broader effort to make sure MU's physical campus matches its long-term academic goals. The contract does not commit the university to any specific construction project, but rather provides expert analysis and recommendations.

Some faculty members have asked for more details about what kinds of projects might be considered. University leaders have not yet released a timeline for when the firm's findings will be presented to the public.

The contract amount covers consulting fees and related expenses for the initial evaluation phase. MU officials stressed that any future building projects would require separate approval from the Board of Curators.
