John Oates, one half of the legendary duo Hall and Oates, has sold his long-held Aspen-area ranch for seven million dollars. The 78-year-old musician and his wife, Aimee, bought the raw property back in 1994. At the time, it was nothing but empty land. Over the following years, the couple turned it into a personal mountain retreat, adding a main house and guest quarters that blend into the surrounding landscape.
The ranch sits on more than 35 acres near the Roaring Fork River, with views of the Elk Mountains. The main residence is designed in a rustic yet refined style, using timber and stone to match the high-country setting. There are wide decks for taking in the scenery, plus a heated garage and space for horses. The property also includes a separate cabin for visitors, making it a true family compound.
Oates has spent much of his life in Colorado, and the ranch was a place he often mentioned in interviews as a grounding spot away from the music business. The sale comes as he continues to tour and work on solo projects. The buyer was not named, and the deal closed quietly, which fits the low-key nature of the property. For Oates, the ranch was never just an investment. It was a project of patience and care, and now someone else gets to enjoy what he and Aimee built from scratch.
