Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has purchased a waterfront estate in the Hamptons for $9.6 million in cash, according to property records. The transaction closed in June, not long after his unsuccessful campaign for New York City mayor came to an end.
The 68-year-old Cuomo bought the property through a limited liability company, a common practice among public figures seeking to keep real estate dealings private. Records show the home sits directly on the water and includes nine bedrooms, making it one of the larger private residences in the area.
The purchase stands out for several reasons. It was made entirely in cash, with no mortgage filed against the property. The timing also raised eyebrows, coming so soon after Cuomo's defeat in the Democratic primary for mayor, a race he entered with high name recognition but ultimately lost.
Cuomo resigned as governor in 2021 following a series of sexual harassment allegations, which he has denied. Since leaving office, he has kept a lower public profile while remaining active in political circles. His move to the Hamptons places him among a long list of prominent New Yorkers who own homes on Long Island's East End.
Real estate agents in the area say demand for waterfront properties has remained strong despite broader market cooling, with cash buyers often winning bidding wars. The identity of the seller was not immediately clear from public records.
