BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. -- The Bertie County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a fraudulent TikTok account that appears to list homes for rent in the area. Authorities say the page is not legitimate and is designed to trick people looking for housing.

The sheriff's office posted an alert on Facebook explaining that the fake account uses the name and branding of a real estate page to appear trustworthy. Scammers are likely posting photos of properties that are not actually available, then asking potential renters for deposits or personal information.

Officials urge anyone who sees the page to report it to TikTok and to avoid sending money or sharing details like bank account numbers or Social Security numbers. The sheriff's office also reminds the public to verify rental listings through licensed real estate agents or by contacting the property owner directly.

No arrests have been reported in connection with the scam, but the investigation is ongoing. Residents who believe they have been targeted should contact the Bertie County Sheriff's Office.
